Special youth care in Romania

The harrowing pictures of Romanian orphanages are familiar to everyone. Fortunately, their condition has fifteen years after the revolution, improved remarkably. Of all Romanian sectors, this sector has undergone the greatest change. The European Union has naturally exerted the necessary pressure on Romania to tackle this problem with urgency. Moreover, the pictures in the media were no agreeable manifestation for the image of Romania. In the coming years, numerous reforms in this sector will be carried out.

Reforms also call for additional schooling of the existing complement of personnel. Training will be necessary, preferably as short as possible during work.

In a cooperative association with on the Flemish side, ‘KHLIM’ ( Limburg Catholic High School, Hasselt) and the ‘Limburg Romania operations’ and with on the Romanian side, ‘Provincial Directorate for Child Protection’ and the University of Iasi, various training modules will undergo a great deal of doctoring. These will be able to be placed on the shop floor.

A mobile training unit will visit various establishments during the period of the project to undertake training. Continuous assessment permits a rapid adjustment of the modules. The project starts in one region (administrative district of Bacau) but will quite rapidly become active in other regions.
